‘It’s Saturday league against Premier League’ – Carl Froch scoffs at Chris Eubank Jr calling out Canelo

Carl Froch doesn’t want to watch Canelo Alvarez vs Chris Eubank Jr.

The former super middleweight champion watched Canelo easily defend his undisputed 168lb championship against Jermell Charlo on Saturday night.

Eubank Jr also tuned in and believes he could do well against Alvarez.

“Canelo needs to fight someone who’s going to get in there and put it on his ass,” he tweeted post-fight.

“Someone who actually wants to win not just survive, secure a payday and give him a sweet lil hug after. This sh** is getting embarrassing. I don’t want a hug… I want that scalp!”

Eubank’s callout drew laughter from Conor Benn who he is expected to fight next after recently avenging his defeat to Liam Smith with a tenth-round stoppage win.

‘The Cobra’ believes a fight with Canelo is more about money than testing himself against the best for Eubank Jr.

“Eubank Jr just wants paying, doesn’t he? You can’t put Eubank Jr anywhere near Canelo. It’s a mismatch,” Froch told Best Gambling Sites.

Froch doesn’t give his compatriot any chance of causing an upset after seeing him previously fall short in fights at the elite level.

He added: “Eubank got blown away by Liam Smith, how will deal with the size and strength of Canelo? And then the experience – he’s just not going to be able to do it.

“Canelo is an absolute ferocious fighting machine. He’s ridiculously experienced at world level.

“The only times Chris Eubank Jr stepped into world level he lost twice to Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves, so he can’t step up to Canelo’s level. It’s Saturday league against Premier League.

“Canelo would smash Eubank to bits, as soon as he gets in range, he’ll absolutely maul him.”

Eubank Jr wasn’t the only fighter calling out Canelo after his latest win.

David Benavidez wants to set up a fight with the 33-year-old superstar but first must get by unbeaten former two-division champion Demetrius Andrade in an interim WBC super middleweight title fight.

Undisputed welterweight king Terence Crawford is also interested in a clash with Canelo if he beats Errol Spence who recently activated a rematch clause after being battered by ‘Bud’ earlier this year.

It doesn’t seem like Froch has to worry about being forced to watch Canelo vs Eubank Jr anytime soon as boxing’s greatest star has much bigger fish to fry.
