Daniel Cormier was put in an awkward position at UFC 293.

The former dual-weight champion, who has transitioned to become a commentator since retiring in 2020, was behind the mic in Sydney, Australia on Sunday morning local time.

As well as calling the fights with Jon Anik and Laura Sanko, ‘DC’ was tasked with interviewing the big winners – something he has done countless times over the last few years.

However, he’s never had to deal with someone like Charles Radtke who lost his cool after picking up a win over local favourite Michael ‘Blood Diamond’ Mathea.

The 33-year-old won two of three rounds but ultimately ended up with three 29-27 scorecards because ‘Blood Diamond’ was deducted a point for landing multiple low blows.

After impressing many in his UFC debut, Radtke let himself down when Cormier asked him to reflect on his first Octagon win immediately after it was announced.

“It felt great,” Radtke said before starting his homophobic attack on the crowd.

He added: “So f*** all you f****** up in the f****** crowd.

“Come down here and get some, you p**** ass b******. F*** you!”

As boos began ringing around the Qudos Bank Arena, Cormier let out an awkward giggle as he pulled the mic away from Radtke and cut their post-fight interview short.

The American was booed during his walk backstage but he embraced his role as villain by holding both middle fingers up to the crowd.

“Oops,” Radtke later wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, but other people on the popular social media platform were quick to condemn him for his slur-filled speech at UFC 293.

One person predicted: “He’s about to be booted.”

Another shared the same opinion about Radtke’s UFC future: “Likely gonna get bounced from the roster.

Someone else said: “There was no reason to say that. If you want to be a bad guy, fine but don’t use a slur.

A fourth person praised Cormier for quickly ending the interview, tweeting: “Good job by DC.”

After receiving backlash for his comments, Radtke returned to social media to issue an official apology and admit his emotions got the best of him.
